Honestly, I'thou not certain what to rate this. It wasn't at all what I was expecting (and not in a good manner, unfortunately). I'thousand hovering somewhere effectually 1.5 stars at the moment. I'll endeavour to organize later, if I accept time (and recall).Honestly, I'm non sure what to rate this. Information technology wasn't at all what I was expecting (and non in a adept mode, unfortunately). I'm hovering somewhere around 1.5 stars at the moment. It hurts me to say that because I was in honey with the offset 2 books and I tin run across the series having and then much potential...just something was merely off near this i. The characters seemed out of grapheme (Gwen and Aeson) and I tin can think of and so many (improve) scenarios that could have happened. As it was, information technology only seemed like a filler and a repeat of the plot of Qualify. Win the Games or dice.
I was hoping for something where (even though I know the ending of book 2) Gwen would work equally the CP'due south Aide in the palace and she would slowly get to know the other sides of him as he interacted with his family unit: doting and grinning and laughing with Manala; loving and kind with his mother; scared of his begetter. And Gwen would slowly realize that the Imperator is evil and overhear somehow almost him wanting to use her as an experiment. Then she could go to Aeson with the news or almost exist kidnapped with Aeson saving her and and then they get together.
Aeson suddenly being Mr. Sunshine later on announcing her every bit his Bride seemed incongruous with his character and, in plow, made him seem out of character. I hated that Gwen hit Aeson. Yes, she was angry. Yes, she certainly had every right to be. Just claiming to beloved someone and so hitting them? No, that's abuse, I don't care how you coat it. Also, Aeson seemed a chip decision-making and Gwen just...went with it. Same with the Imperator. I (hoped) she'd be all riled up about male parent-in-police force being a bully because it was 1 of the things I loved about her in Qualify: she learned how to stand for herself - it shouldn't affair who information technology'due south coming from. Also, Gwen seemed and so lovesick that she wasn't using her brain a lot of the fourth dimension (aye, I get that she was depressed, but information technology didn't come across that way to me). Which, if yous know me, drove me crazy considering I can't stand stupid characters. I loved Gwen for using her encephalon. At least she did - finally - in the Games. Took over half the book, though. Argh. And what'south with that stupid ending? I'm getting real tired of not having whatever questions answered and having endings just...abruptly...finish. Please at least finish out the plot and having a trivial falling activeness, not only leaving your readers in the middle of it. Information technology makes us (or me, at least) feeling very disatisfied. And if you must have a bewilderment ending, there are ways to do it, simply not just stopping in the middle of things.
Honestly, parts of this book fabricated me want to simply stop reading and I about did a couple of times: the first bit was WAY also mushy/ooey-gooey lovey-dovey (and when Aeson told Gwen, "I dear you," it made me think, "Does he really? Because when you say it like that, it sounds like yous're non sure"); and WTF was with the kinky sexual activity ritual??? that just...this serial seems geared for young adult (could almost go toward children's/all ages), simply when you throw in scenes like that, it simply seems to really ruin something and would be more appropriate for adult audiences only; the second half just reminded me mode as well much of the starting time volume. I call back a large part of the problem was that there was manner too much telling and not plenty showing, then it seemed like the author was trying to shove too much information into the volume...and none of the questions I had got answered. Also, things similar this this kept happening: "Oh, await, I don't similar this idea, so nosotros're going back to the original one - haha, tricked you!"...and all it did was make me desire to say, "Pick one already!"
I realize all this sounds like I hated information technology. At that place were parts I enjoyed: Anu finding out Gwen was the Regal Lady cracked me up; hearing Anu's backstory; Brie (surprisingly)..and I actually constitute myself liking her more than Gwen at times when Gwen was being an idiot...and I really don't desire to like a terrorist more than the principal graphic symbol..there's something not right in that location; but Brie was funny; I also loved the Pegasei, much to my surprise; Blayne was funny, as usual; I liked Zaap and the rest of 'Team Distraction'; I loved when Gwen pulled downward Thalassa's pants and tied her shoelaces together and Gwen'south ranting about the Peachy Pyramid.
Every bit I said, this was just a jumble of mail-reading thoughts. I may recollect things through and change my heed about bug later. So far: 1.5 stars.

Win, just like Qualify and Compete, is its own perfect piffling story arc that fits within the larger series (well, little in proportion given it's nearly i,000 pages long). The pacing is perfect, starting out right where the second volume ended with some dramatics, then slowing down a fleck to lay some foundation and build the world out, and finally slowly standing to speed upwards exponentially straight up until the end. And while the end leaves this portion of the story quite consummate, it also opened new doors and left me with and then many questions that I only want to choice up the adjacent volume immediately!
In add-on to the pacing, Nazarian'south strengths lie in creating memorable and relatable characters and relationships (particularly with the main character, Gwen), forth with incredible and immersive world building, visually and culturally, with plenty of political intrigue to boot. This particular novel focuses on the gladiator style Atlantis Games that definitely give me Hunger Games flashbacks. I likewise saw glimpses of other stories that may take inspired the author, but she pulled them together in a way that is completely unique.
That all being said, I recall there is definitely a specific audience that I think will love this series (of which I am most definitely part of), where in that location is a converging of the following:
-Those who similar young developed dystopian series and their associated tropes.
-Those who similar science fiction fantasy about the impending terminate of the earth.
-Those who don't listen romance and some its associated tropes (less so in the starting time volume and progressing as the series continues).
The writing here is not necessarily what I would call beautiful, but information technology is clear, curtailed, and attainable. Well-nigh halfway in, I thought I might scream if I read the phrase, "It occurs to me," one more time, but this began to sparse out in the second half of the book, and I constitute myself so pulled into this story that I did non desire to put downwards. Vera has created an amazing new addition to the Atlantis Grail series! Your favorite characters from the first ii books are joined by new characters equally Gwen continues her journey from Earth to her new home on Atlantis.
There are still downsides. Then many downsides. I nearly put downwardly the volume later slogging through the beginning. Aeson seemed a different person, what with having emotions and all. Y'all get an answer for the surprise yous receive in the last book and it's... not a very good answer because you would recollect Aeson would manage to become some sort of information across to Gwen. That is not something you spring on someone without talking, proficient reason or not. I was actually happy with the relationship and how it was finally progressing, only after a while what I was reading was stagnant. Once the Atlantis Grail started and Gwen had a goal things started picking up again.
The Grail games are fun, if ridiculous. Over again, the attention paid to different stages of the games is very uneven, with the most centered on the start stage. Afterwards that the adjacent few roll around relatively quickly and with strangely non every bit much conflict every bit the first stage. There's a lot of sitting around and waiting. Gwen survives by severally really lucky factors (in fact, too lucky, but handwave) and a bunch of people who gather under her because... well, for some reason. The end of the book was really abrupt. I got hooked on The Atlantis Grail series when I read Authorize after I received a costless digital copy in June 2016. I started reading the volume because I was bored and needed a proficient escape. I finished reading the book because I loved it! And then, I purchased the digital copy of of Compete, the 2d book in the series. I merely got further immersed in Gwen Lark's worlds. And then, I started waiting for the publication of Win. It absolutely lived up to my expectations.Although some readers will find the book too long (90 chapters), the length is one of the things I really do relish. That's because the story is so circuitous, I don't see how information technology could exist told in a shorter format. Don't get me wrong; there may be some things that could have been tightened up, but the story and characters are so carefully developed, and that requires length. The story of the Globe refugees arrival on the planet Atlantis delivers all that was promised in the before books. The characters who are repeats are further developed while the newly introduced characters get very existent in my mind. The plot flows smoothly, and although some events are required by events previously set in motion, they are still full of surprises.
So now I am finished my first fourth dimension through Win. It certainly is non the terminal time I will read it as I wait for book # four: Survive!

I was hooked on the whole series. It is engaging and action packed with just enough romance. The inclusion in the end of the Pegasus creatures brought new life to the story. I am hoping they will be included in the next volume in the serial.
I am excited for the next book to come up out. Can hardly stand the expect. Will be purchasing the set.
These books manage to use the same themes in new and inventive ways so I find I can hardly put them down. I stayed upwards half the night to finish Win. Well worth the read.
To sum it up: THIS IS AN Astonishing BOOK. Vera has outdone herself creating this fantastic world and after reading each volume I tin can't stop thinking almost them. This is by far one of my top 5 favorite volume series ever... so far. Well allow me tell you at present I'm pissed off Goodreads didn't save the review I just wrote.
